About this website
The outreach webpage “Exoplanet Diversity” aims at spreading the subject area of exoplanets with its many multifaceted aspects. It is supposed to stoke interest and fascination in the exploration of space and our place in it in students, educators and society at lar, and thus foster general acceptance of exoplanet research and with it fundamental research in general.
The project originated with the Priority Programme SPP 1992 „Exploring the Diversity of Extrasolar Planets“. That was a Germany-wide research network funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) from 2018 to 2024. In 45 projects at 17 institutes all over Germany, this network advanced and combined both methods for observing exoplanets and theoretical models and computer simulations.
One of the outcomes is this portal: for students, educators, science communicators, and the interested public. Here, you will find extensive material about exoplanets: Background articles, collection of media and teaching material, highlight articles about selected discoveries and a booklist. The portal also allows you to work yourself with exoplanet models, ask scientists questions directly, and learn more about the people behind the science.
With this website, we hope to help many in understanding the fascinating world of exoplanets and following new discoveries.
